Frequently asked questions
Why do IRCC forms only open in Adobe?
IRCC builds its forms with XFA, an Adobe format that most PDF readers, browsers and phones don’t support. They show a blank page or a “Please wait…” message instead. This tool lays out the form itself and saves it as a standard PDF.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The form is read and converted inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, stored or logged, and it’s gone when you close the page.
Can I submit the converted PDF to IRCC?
No. The converted copy is for reading and review. It has no 2D barcode or validation, so IRCC may reject it. Submit the original form, validated and saved in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
What’s the difference between “Download PDF” and “Print or save as PDF”?
“Download PDF” saves each page as a high-resolution image inside a PDF, so it looks the same in every viewer. “Print or save as PDF” uses your browser’s print engine: it’s the closest match to the original and the text stays selectable. Choose “Save as PDF” as the printer and set margins to none.
Something on the page looks blank or out of place.
A few details are calculated by Adobe’s scripts, such as “Page 1 of 7”, and stay blank here. Some complex forms may also shift slightly. If a page looks wrong, open the form in Adobe Acrobat Reader and print it to PDF instead.
